Hard Disk Data Recovery Services
Busted Simpletech 320 GIG Hard Drive. What do I do!?
I got a 320 GIG Simpletech External USB Hard Drive about 6 months ago, and it’s been working great, until about 2 weeks ago. One day, the hard disk stopped spinning. I panicked, but about 3 hrs later it started again. Then it kept going on and off every time somebody bumped the table it was on. Finally it stopped working and hasn’t started since. The electronics work fine, and my PC sees it but doesn’t recognize it. The disk obviously has stopped spinning. This all happened while i’m editing a video project for school, that’s about 50-60 Gigs. Figures. Anyway, I’m freaking out, and I’m wondering if there’s some way to back up the info on the drive. I really need that video footage, because i’ve put a lot of work into it. Can I do it myself? I know there are services out there that can do data recovery; What’s the best/cheapest way to get my data back? Is it possible?
PS-My Hard Drive is under warranty, so i’m getting a new one, but i still need my video!!
It may be too late for recovery by anyone other than a professional. The start and stop was the drive screaming at you to remove all data before it failed completely. You can try using the twist method – with it connected give it a violent twist so try to get it spinning again then immediately copy all data. There has been some limited success with freezing a drive then reconnecting it. If it works the drive will be live for a short time.
