Hard Disk Data Recovery Freeware
Recover corrupted hard drive data?
I recently connected my external hard drive to my PC to backup some data. Halfway through my PC shut down (thanks to Microsoft’s updates, no less). Due to the unexpected shutdown my hard drive is now “corrupted and inaccessible” , however seeing as it can still be detected as “Local Disk (H:)” whenever I try to connect it I think there’s still some hope.
Any hard drive recovery method/freeware/paid software you’ve used before that worked? Thanks.
PC’s OS is Windows XP SP3 if it’s significant.
From what I understand, reformating my drive (both quick or thorough) will wipe clean all the data. Anyone can verify this?
First, a couple of examples…
I was installing a 500gb SATA drive, I had all my software archive on my old IDE drives, so, I formatted & partitioned the 500gb drive, then transferred the archive to the drive, and (silly me) deleted the archive on the IDE drive. Went to install XP from boot on pre formatted NTFS partition on the hard drive. XP decided it didnt like my partitions, cleared them (and my archive) then installed. Ouch….lost the lot.
Went hunting for some fix, and found Arax Disk Doctor, gave it a go, big WOW, recovered the lot.
Second, a friend of mine had blown his Op sys (XP) to bits on his laptop, on the basis that a fient heart never woed an old lady,I FORMATTED and re-installed XP, then put Disc Doctor to work, a bit ‘tounge in cheek’ , and recovered all his precious music files!!!! XP installs where XP installed before, not over-writing his files.
So, its a fallacy to say formatting will clean all the data, panic not

They allow you to do a trial download, enabling you to ‘see’ that it can do ‘what it says on the tin’, was without doubt the best £20.00 i ever spent.
