External Hard Drive Data Recovery Software

Problem with external hard drive?

I recently had my external hard drive take a nose dive off my desk. When this happened it busted the conecter where you plug usb cable in. (it only had 3 little solder spots)
anyway I took the hard drive out of the plastc housing, and its just a hard drive with a sata conector. (i think sata,i get the names confused) I had a kit with cables to hook it up to a computer thru usb. Well when you open “my computer” it wasnt listed. So I went to disc managment and found it listed as disc 5. When I right clicked all it said was sometjing like ” make a soft drive I think. Then asign a lettet to name it.
now it shows under “my computer” but when I try and open it or right click and explore it says I must format first. If I do this I will lose almost 400 gigs of content. I have tryed a data recovery progran to no avail. Any idea how I can get my contents so I can transfer to another HD.? Or what is a good datA recovery software. Thanks.. Andy

People often feel panic when I see this. If I format the drive, will I lose all my data? If not, how could I get access to my files?

My take is that you may have to format the drive and then use recovery software to recover your files.

Here’s some information about file recovery, think you need to take a look, very useful
