Data Recovery Ubuntu Live Cd

Double Error – Unmountable Boot Volume and then some?

Hey all, my friend is using an HP computer with Windows XP, and he got the blue screen of death. He tried rebooting it, using safe mode and all that jazz, but still comes up with an unmountable boot volume error:

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME 0x000000ED (0×0….)

i did some research and it looked we needed to fix the boot record or boot file. so then i was like okay, we can just use an XP CD and use the recovery console and repair it, but then we can another error after pressing R:

Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer

i then researched that and found a bunch of complicated ways to fixing the problem, dealing with installing drivers and changing something in BIOS (though his HP BIOS doesn’t seem to be showing the option we need). so then i popped in an Ubuntu Live CD just to check if his hard drive was still working, and so far, it looks like it’s still all there. the data on his hd shows up. How can I get his Windows up and running again?

use your xp cd and do a recover
