TroubleShooting a MAC PC ?
I have advanced experience with windows based pc, I recently got a job working for a technology group, which specializes in data recovery. etc.
So What steps are taken when trouble shooting a mac?
What are the most common problems regarding a mac?
What software is best for Registry, Virus, Tune Up, Recovery for a mac?
How do you configure boot up options?
Where and what command can open up the Start up Programs, So that i may configure to my liking?
And well any other tips that can help me diagnose problems with a mac, weather it be hardware/software related.

1 & 2. The instances when you would need to troubleshoot a Mac are rare. Usually they involve a problem with the system software or accessory hardware problems. Sometimes users stop a Mac during software updates, install the wrong software etc. The most common problem is a Mac trying to start up and not finding the system software (MacOs X), there’s a spinning wheel and that’s it. This is usually repaired by inserting the MacOS X DVD and restarting holding down the “c” key. The Mac starts up from the DVD software instead of the hard drive software. You can then repair the system permissions & the hard disk with the disk utility program in utilities folder. You can also reinstall the system software if needed. Go to the Apple website to find out how to zap the pram or start up in safe mode.
3. There is no registry on a Mac. There is no BIOS. There are no MacOS X viruses. The handful of Mac trojans can only be installed with an admin password. The free versions of iAntivirus or the 30 day demo of MacScan will remove them. As to tuning up a Mac, the files get “prioritized” automatically when you install new software, you don’t need to defrag a Mac. A great software tool for checking and repairing a Mac is TechTool Pro by Micromat.
4. I have never had to configure any Mac for start up items in over 10 years. I really can’t remember how.
5. The only hardware problems I have run into were a dead pram battery and ram going bad.
