Data Recovery Scratched Cd

has anyone had any luck with any of those cd/dvd recovery software titles?

They claim to be able to read a scratched cd or dvd. How can it read the scratched cd or dvd if it’s scratched, and therefore the laser beam cannot read the data? Is it a gimic, or do some of these programs really do the trick of recovering lost files?

Also,Diskgetor is useful about this.
