Data Recovery Network Drive

Transferring data between two laptop hard-drives?

Please help, my home laptop is acting up and I am worried that I’ll lose all my mp3s and work!

I have a Toshiba laptop and its userinit.exe file somehow got corrupted, so now every time I login it automatically logs me out again. The Microsoft software was pre-installed and if I use the Toshiba recovery disc, the hard-drive will be reformatted to reinstall the software, meaning obviously that I’ll lose all my files. I’ve borrowed another Toshiba in the meantime and both laptops are on XP and there is no network connection.

Is there a way to link the two laptops to copy my documents across given that I cannot log into one of them?

Options are:

1. Get the toshiba to boot by doing some repairs to it. Lots of info on that around

2. Simplest thing might be to temporarily pull the hard drive out and connect it inside another computer to grab your info

3. Boot from a Linux “Live CD” which will be able to see your hard drive and also access the internet. Then you can use something like skydrive.live.com with it’s free 5 gigs of storage to save you data…

Jerry: how’s he gonna save on a memory card if he can’t boot? the telepathy switch in the bottom of the laptop perhaps?

Another option that might work – boot into safe mode and create another user account, then reboot and you should be able to login

Of course if you can get into safe mode (F8 while it’s booting) , you can just save your data fom there so maybe you’ve tried that
