Data Recovery Linux Distro

How can I recover my deleted partition, or at least its files?

Yesterday, I planned to triple boot my HP Mini 210-1000 netbook (Windows 7, Ubuntu, and another Linux distro), but… When I shrank my second partition (Drive D: in Windows, and /dev/sda5 in Ubuntu), it suddenly became unreadable with the error “The volume size is larger than the device size” (or something along those lines).

The worst part is — for me at least — is that /dev/sda5 aka D: had about 2 months worth of records, projects and other related work. I have the data backed up, but that data is severely out-dated and therefore, almost useless.

I know that there are many partition and file recovery tools, but, since my Windows is being a d*ck up, I cannot run Windows apps. Instead, is there a Linux (preferably Ubuntu) file recovery tool? I have heard TestDisk and PhotoRec, but I have yet to try them. And a GUI would be dandy, too.

Any help is appreciated, and thanks in advance.

PhotoRec has no GUI, but it works extremely well at recovering deleted files.
