Data Recovery In Linux Ubuntu

External Hard Drive won’t mount!!! HELP ME PLEASE OBI ONE KENOBI YOUR MY ONLY HOPE!!!?

I have a 500gb Acomdata external hard drive. After my pc froze and I restarted the external wouldn’t show up on my linux (Ubuntu) pc. I then plugged it into my laptop and in device manager it keeps showing up and disapearing about every 30 seconds. When it shows up it says mass storage device, but then it disappears about 7-10 seconds later. I NEED to get my story off of this drive. I cannot find my backup pen drive with it on it. Should I open up the external and install it as a secondary slave inside my puter, or is there software that will fix this so I can do data recovery? I can’t afford to go to a place that does the cleaning rooms. Please help!

One thing to add, when it is connected to Ubuntu (Linux) the ext hd shows up as a cd drive, but of course still won’t let me get into it.

Unfortunately I don’t know anyone with a Mac. However I could go to the local TV Public Access studio. I know they got Macs there I could use.

sudo apt-get install cowsay
cowsay ‘bloody hell’

lols, sorry (but DO try that) and then just do the next line in one go…

sudo apt-get install testdisk | sudo testdisk

Now if you can’t get your data off with this little tool, next you need a screwdriver, hammer, and chisel – take out the HDD patter. It makes a GREAT frisby.

Recover a data disk with ddrescue
