Data Recovery Hdd Not Powering

Can’t read harddrive – clanks.?

So I have two hard drives that have been sitting around for a few months – and I need to read them. The one reads with no problems, while the other when powered on it makes a loud clanking sound that kind of runs into the previous clank.

I have tried the freezer trick – it temporarily reads 6.8gb of it in BIOS but does not show up in Windows device manager/diskmgmt etc. I don’t have Ubuntu on a separate partition to see if I can read it via that – the real size of the HDD is 30gb

Would it be safe to say the hdd is unrecoverable? I do not want to send it in to any recovery companies (too expensive for the data that is on the hard drive)

Thank you

It sounds like the drive is damaged, I would not expect that the data is recoverable.

The freezer trick is not guaranteed to work, if it does at all it is a one shot event as the drive can be irreparably damaged by moisture buildup in the time it takes for the drive to get back to normal temperature.
