Data Recovery Hard Drive Not Detected
what’s the best way to format a dead hard drive?
last night i caught a virus that made my external hard drive not readable by my bios, i guess that’s how you explain it. i got MOST of my stuff off of it by using that file scavenger data recovery utility because it detected the hard drive when my system didnt… i was wondering if anyone knows if there is some easy formatting utility like that. it’d be a big help. i’d prefer freeware but if there’s something better let me know =]
..thank you.
Your HDD is not dead if you got information off of it. Unless you have some expensive machine that can read the magentic surfaces from the disk platters. Also if your BIOS is not seeing the drive, then you would have not been able to boot to Windows and nothing would have been able to read your disk, whether the drive is dead or there is just a loose connection with the drive/motherboard. A virus can not cause your drive to die, it can screw with the MBR and the file table to not allow Windows to load anymore but never kill a drive. You can boot to your Windows XP CD and format/ remove partitions from there..
