Data Recovery For Macbook

Is it possible to recover data from a macbook that wont start?

My mac’s still under warranty but I don’t want to pay for data recovery. Is there any way I can do it myself?

There’s no reason to assume that there is any damage to the hard drive just because the computer won’t boot. There could be some other hardware failure that didn’t affect the hard drive.

Boot from a LiveCD and see if the internal HD mounts. If it does, then you’ve probably got some other hardware failure.

If you don’t have an optical drive, you could boot from an external hard drive with a usable OS on it and then try to mount the internal HD.
