How much does data recovery cost?

My laptop (Dell Inspiron 6400) decided to pack up on me & the hard drive (SATA) is no longer being recognised at all, even in the recovery console using my operating system CD.

I was wondering if people knew how much (roughly) it would cost to take my laptop to a data recovery service to try and retrieve the data from the drive. I’m from England, UK by the way!

Also, do you have to provide your own source of storage (e.g external drive) for them to put the retrieved data on to, or do they provide it for you?

Depending on the reason for the failure, it might cost you several hundreds or thousands of dollars or pounds.

The data recovery company will usually do only a few DVDs for free/a small fee, or they will let you choose a new hard drive from them or supply your own.
