INTERVIEWER: Why would someone need shoulder arthroscopy, and how would they benefit from that?
DR. THIEL: We do a number of shoulder arthroscopies, and most of the time it’s for people who have a shoulder injury or an overuse injury. It could be a rotator cuff tear, meaning that the tendons around the shoulder can be torn, and some people aren’t able to function after having that occur. So, we can go in arthroscopically and actually repair their tendon. Through a fairly prolonged recovery, they can get back their function and get rid of their pain.
Other people that have sports injuries, like a shoulder dislocation, where their shoulder becomes unstable. Those people can actually repair the cartilage that they’ve damaged or torn, and stabilize their shoulder.
