Data Recovery Disk Cloning
I used “fixboot”, what damage have I done and how do I repair it?
Here goes I installed a copy of Norton Ghost 2003, I selected the options to clone the c: drive to another drive.
The PC restarted, the autonomous program failed to work, windows failed to restart. I tried all options and nothing.
I booted from an XP CD and I went to the recovery console, looking for solutions, seeing “fixboot” well, I thought that would do the trick. Not the case at all and now I’m concerned about the data on the disk. Please advise, thank you.
fixmbr” fixboot”
Possible Fix by reconfiguring boot.ini using Recovery Console.
1.Boot with XP CD set bios to boot from cd rom
2. Press R to load the Recovery Console.
3. Type bootcfg.
4. This should fix any boot.ini errors causing setup not to see the XP OS
install.
5. Try the repair install.
One more
“Reboot, this time taking the immediate R option, and if the CD letter is say K: give these commands
COPY K:i386ntldr C:
COPY K:i386ntdetect.com C:
Generally these settings will be under the boot options. You should have setup so the computer looks at the following options when booting:
1 – - CD-ROM
2 Floppy / LS120
3 – Network (if available)
4 – Hard Disk Drive
