Data Recovery Dead Hard Drive Windows Xp
data recovery from hard drive?
Ok, here’s the story:
Windows XP desktop. When computer turned on, lights on front panel light up and can hear fan spin briefly, then all goes dead. Data on hard drive (in several folders), and you guessed it, it’s not backed up.
Suggestions for recovering the data?
Take the disk out of the computer.
Set its jumper as ‘slave’ (should say how to do this on the drive)
Plug it into another computer (for IDE drives, make sure the IDE ribon is connected. Also remember the power cable – 4 wires, usually in a line, with a male connector on the end)
Boot up the second computer normally (make sure the disk is recognised by the BIOS first)
You should have access to the data then. If not, start>>run>>type ‘diskmgmt.msc’ and see if windows has recognised the new disk.
Any more info? just ask!
