Data Recovery Company Uk
Is it likely that a data recovery firm will hand over my friend’s hard drive to the officials or ignore it?
My friend’s hard drive recently failed to continue reading and has had to opt for the option of handing it to a data recovery firm since this is the only way he can get it replaced (Western Digital have specified partners they work with – other companies that work on the drive will result in the warrant becoming void). Anyway, he has a few bits of illegal software, videos etc. Is it likely the data recovery company will hand it over to the officials or can he safely trust them to ignore it? He’s from the UK by the way, as am I.
He can’t recover the data using software. The hard drive doesn’t appear in My Computer and it seems like the reading part of his hard drive isn’t working, even though it seems to connect to the computer.
They do have a obligation to report illigal activities using computers.
What I don’t get, there are utilities out there that he can recover the data from the hard drive himself. Also, what is on there that he can’t re-download? Call it a loss and move on.
EDIT: I had a hard drive that didn’t appear on My Computer, but the recover software did see it and recovered my files.
