Am I the only one who finds the idea of someone from India looking to an American site for tech support ironic?
That being said, there is a really good chance your hard drive (or at least its controller) is dead and you’re going to have to either find a replacement controller card (which will be hard, expensive, and may not work) or pay some major cash for professional recovery (generally on the order of $1000US).
If you’re super-lucky, your drive simply came unplugged. Check for loose connections. If you’re less lucky, but still pretty lucky, then your motherboard is having issues and this has nothing to do with the drive. Try plugging the drive into a working computer to see if that works.
If plugging the drive into another computer doesn’t work, then you should probably consider it a total loss.
In the future, check out services like Dropbox (http://www.dropbox.com) or other backup options to make sure that a hard drive failure doesn’t wipe out so much data again.
Remember, there are two kinds of people in this world:
People who have had a hard drive fail and people who WILL have a hard drive fail. Be prepared!
PS – Amit’s idea is ridiculous. You don’t need a professional to put your hard drive in another computer. It wouldn’t boot either way, so make sure to install it alongside the other computer’s drive (don’t replace the other computer’s drive).
If you are really worried about damage to the other computer, then simply buy one of these:

That way you can plug your drive in without even turning the other computer off. If that doesn’t work, the drive is likely dead.
