Seagate freeagent desktop?
About 2 months ago we bought one, and put tons of data on it. Much of the data is only on that external hard drive, and no where else. Today, the system won’t turn on, even when it’s connected to other computers. None of the computers register it either. The troubleshooting page on their site offered no help, nor did customer service. The data recovery place will charge us $2,000 to get the data back, even though it’s their crappy product’s fault. Has anyone else had this problem, and possibly know of any alternative solutions. I can’t afford to pay data recovery, and there is about 2 months of hard irreplaceable work on the drive. So I’m sort of desperate. Thank you.
Sounds like you are stuck. Take this as a life lesson and always keep at least two copies of important data on different devices. If there is one guarantee when it comes to computer equipment it’s that it *will* fail sooner or later and you will not be able to predict when.
